80 MW of wind power produced
35,000 Homes powered
177,00 Metric-tons of annual carbon reduction
The Details
The Copenhagen Wind Farm was constructed in Copenhagen, Lewis & Jefferson Counties, New York. This site development contract involved two phases, which had to be sequenced so that the tree cuttings were only performed in compliance with environmental bat regulations. It was also necessary to mitigate any subgrade disturbance.
Scope of Work
Phase one: clearing, chipping, stumping, and grinding 74 acres for the site and a substation.
Phase two: clearing, chipping, stumping, and grinding 39 acres for the transmission lines.
Both phases: Installation of roadway entrances and all erosion and sediment control measures.
Best Management Practices, including timber matting in wetland areas and hand-felling of trees in environmentally sensitive areas.

The Challenge
A major portion of our work took place during two winter seasons. Copenhagen is located on the Tug Hill Plateau, and is known as being one of the snowiest places in the United States. In 2015 Tug Hill received 256.2 inches of snow, far surpassing steamboat springs and other mountainous areas of the west that received around 135 inches of snow. Completing the clearing and grubbing of this massive site during the winter to not affect the northern long-eared bat was a major undertaking.
The Result
The work was performed on time, with proper quality and environmental stewardship, and under budget.
